To succeed, your business probably depends on the technology it uses. Although the technicians at Gemmis Technologies are happy to help you solve any technical problems, we know that your business doesn’t always have the time or budget to call in every issue. These five troubleshooting steps will help you solve or narrow down small problems, meaning you’ll spend less time on the phone.
Save your work
If possible, before you do anything else, save your work to the server or a flash drive.
Check Life Support
It may sound silly, but if a computer, printer, mouse or keyboard aren’t working, you should first check to make sure everything is plugged in. Sometimes a plug or USB cable may have become slightly dislodged, cutting off power or connection.
There’s a reason you have probably heard this suggestion before. More often than not, restarting your computer will solve basic tech support problems. If you’re unable to power off the computer via the start menu, hold down the power button or if needed, unplug the computer. Wait ten seconds before restarting.
Are other people having the same problem? Knowing whether or not the issue is an isolated one could help you solve or understand the problem. At the very least, this is important information that tech support will need to know.
Run a Virus Scan or Defrag
It could be a virus slowing down your computer. Or you may just need to clean up files on your hard drive. Your computer needs a little TLC every once in a while in order to stay healthy, so this is something you may want to do even when your computer is running just fine.
